Speakers will present research on salmon distribution, survival in the Bering Sea
A meeting of the Bycatch Advisory Council (BAC) via Zoom is set for Tuesday, November 5, starting at 9am Alaska time.

The BAC will review ongoing salmon research that will help provide information on managing salmon bycatch.
Presenters and topics are:
– Bering Sea chum salmon marine distribution and survival – Dr. Curry Cunningham, UFA College of Fisheries & Ocean Sciences
– Bering Sea Chinook salmon marine distribution research – Sabrina Garcia, ADF&G
– Alaska Salmon Research Task Force report – Ed Farley, NOAA
– Bering Sea chum salmon genetics – Jordan Head, Bristol Bay Science and Research Institute
The Bycatch Advisory Council is an offshoot of the Alaska Bycatch Review Task Force (ABRT) which created recommendations for the State of Alaska in the areas of State Engagement, Management (regulatory) and Research.
The Bycatch Advisory Council was tasked with reviewing those recommendations and forwarding implementation proposals to the Commissioner of Fish & Game. In recent meetings, the focus was on some of the management proposals and bycatch utilization. This meeting will focus on salmon research that could inform policy makers on salmon bycatch.
