NPFMC proposes much higher Bering Sea crab bycatch for 2024/25!

Also proposes nearly 8 million pounds of halibut and herring as bycatch for each of the next two years.

At its meeting this week in Anchorage, the North Pacific Fishery Management Council will take a look at all allowable groundfish catch and bycatch levels being proposed for 2024 and 2025. Final decisions will be made in December.

For Bering Sea crab, the bycatch numbers are higher than for the past two years. Below is a reference:
