Fisheries will take center stage at two debates in September featuring candidates for Alaska governor and the US House and Senate.
For over 36 years the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce has hosted candidate debates where the topic is limited to a single topic: Alaska fisheries issues. The events are held on stage at the Kodiak high school auditorium and broadcast live statewide on Alaska public radio stations and also live streamed.
The governor’s debate will be held on Wednesday, September 9th at 6pm, and the U.S. House and Senate debates on Saturday, September 12th at 11am. All candidates who advance through the August 18th Primary Election and receive at least 5 percent of the vote will be invited to participate at the Kodiak debates. The general election is November 3rd.
The debates will be broadcast live on KMXT 100.1FM and made available statewide through Alaska Public Media. The debates also will be live streamed at kmxt.org and at the Kodiak Chamber’s website at kodiakchamber.org.
The Chamber and its Fisheries Debate Committee are accepting fisheries topics and questions for the debate now through August 19th.
