AFAC members identify the needs of fishing communities, set federal award funding limits

Seven membership positions are open on the American Fisheries Advisory Committee (AFAC) which is responsible for identifying the needs of fishing communities in several regions, while also establishing award funding limits for the Saltonstall-Kennedy grant competition program.
The 22-member committee wants applicants with experience in seafood harvesting, processing, recreational or commercial fishing, growing seafood, fisheries science, food distribution, marketing, and retail or food service.

Those chosen to serve on the Committee are expected to commit to a minimum of three years. Meetings are held three times each year: two in person and one via Zoom. Committee membership is voluntary and, except for reimbursable travel and related expenses per federal travel regulations, service is without compensation.
Applications should be submitted by email to: nmfs.afac.nominations@noaa.gov by the end of day on June 20 to be considered.
The first Committee meeting, which will include selected applicants, is scheduled for September 16 – September 19, 2025.
