Cohos crunch exports!

The US exported nearly two million pounds of coho salmon (868 metric tons) during the first quarter of 2022. That is a 270% increase from one year ago, Undercurrent News reports using NOAA Fisheries trade data.

The value of the coho exports also increased by a whopping 223% year over year to $4.1 million.

That’s a boost for Alaska, which is the largest producer of wild coho salmon.

Undercurrent News also reports that US pink salmon exports also surged to nearly 14 million pounds (6,261 metric tons) during the first quarter of 2022, up 83% over the same time last year.

The value of the pink exports also increased by 53% to $30.38 million.

Again, it’s good news for Alaska which is the largest producer of pink salmon in the US.
